Flex On Demand courses offer students the freedom to learn on their own schedule while receiving support from certified teachers and one-on-one mentoring. With year-round enrollment and no live classes, students progress at their own pace using provided course pacing recommendations. Each course allows up to six months for completion, with no late penalties—making it an excellent choice for independent, self-motivated learners who thrive in a flexible, self-directed environment.

Each 0.5 credit hour course is designed to be completed in approximately 80–90 hours of study with a typical semester running 16–18 weeks as illustrated below:

Yes, we are accredited by Cognia and the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS). Many BYU OHS courses are also approved by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

BYU OHS accepts transfer credits earned or grade placement from institutions that are accredited by recognized national, regional, or state accrediting agencies. Students must complete at least 25 percent of their total credits through BYU OHS. Additionally, students must be enrolled at BYU OHS during the semester of their intended graduation and complete at least two courses with BYU OHS during their senior year. Concurrent Enrollment courses taken and passed at BYU or through BYU Independent Study University courses can count toward the 25 percent. External credits and transfer credits (including BYU Independent Study High School courses) do not count toward the 25 percent.
No. Our online high school courses are secular in nature and open to everyone.
All BYU Online High School students are considered full-time. A local school would need to approve participation in activities at that school.
Students continuing to attend their local school can take courses, including AP or concurrent courses, through BYU Independent Study.
We recommended that you complete your course requirements through BYU Online High School, but if we do not offer a certain course (band, drama, etc.), you may contact us to request approval to enroll at another school.
No. Flex On Demand courses offer great flexibility in scheduling courses, but students must complete at least six courses every six months.
Yes. After applying for Admissions, you may also apply for Financial Aid. See more information at https://hs.byu.edu/financial-assistance.
BYU OHS wants to offer our exceptional educational experiences to qualified students regardless of their financial circumstances. Financial assistance is available only to full-time students regardless of a student’s country of residence and financial assistance applications are evaluated independently of admission applications.
Financial assistance is applied towards the cost of tuition. We do not provide financial aid or loans for computers or other school-related materials.
